The role
As a Towed Array and Torpedo Loading Specialist, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Working with our partners the MoD and The Royal Navy, you will be part of a team responsible for the co-ordination of embarkation and disembarkation of tactical explosives ordnance. Supporting the deployment and recovery of Towed Array activity when required. This role would see you deploying with your team to fulfil the role of Officer of the Quarter for Torpedo Loading and, on occasion, Towed Array Officer in Charge.

Day to day, you'll:

  • Be accountable for the safety of explosives on jetties, overseeing all explosives activities whilst ensuring explosives licence restrictions are observed.
  • Ensure continuous development of explosives routines, processes and procedures with relevant regulatory involvement.
  • Be responsible for the safe handling of the array, the conduct of the support vessel, the attendant vessel if used and for ensuring all resources are suitably prepared and deployed.
  • Conduct surveys of ports in foreign countries and provide reports to Commanding Officers and Fleet on suitability of sites.
  • You will communicate regularly with key external stakeholders such as the MoD, Design Authority and Explosives regulatory bodies.

This role full time role at 37 hours per week and will be based at HMNB Clyde, Helensburgh site with the option for hybrid working 1-2 days per week. The role is adaptable and can be based at various sites in the UK or abroad, and part of the role is being able to deploy with 72 hours' notice to assist in duties pertaining to a vessel at sea. Such travel would not incur cost to you, all flights, hotels & living expenses would be covered by the business.

Essential experience of the Towed Array and Torpedo Loading Specialist:

  • Ideally, the successful candidate will have operational experience working for the Royal Navy on T, A and V Class systems or from a weapons engineering perspective.
  • Experience in Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives operations and associated equipment and or Towed Array Operations and associated equipment
  • Experience in Risk Assessments and Quality Assurance
  • Experience in Planning processes and management processes


Qualifications for the Towed Array and Torpedo Loading Specialist:

  • Ideally you will hold a HNC/HND in Electronically however, we value difference and don't have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you.

Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
