Job Title: 12 Months' Placement Opportunity- Undergraduate Engineering

Location: Abingdon, Oxon

Salary: From £18,000.00 per year

LTi Metaltech specialises in the precision fabrication and welding of high-performance vessels and structures for use in demanding industrial applications, from cryogenic pressure vessels to high tech industrial furnaces, and nuclear waste containers.

The role:

We have an excellent opportunity for an Undergraduate Mechanical/Production Engineer to join us on a 12-month Placement from August/September 2022.

To make the most of this Placement Opportunity you will have a solid knowledge of basic engineering principles; you will be highly self-motivated and able to work and communicate well at all levels across the business.

Job Purpose:
To run, manage and deliver small engineering projects such as process improvements, design to cost and tooling design to help achieve business objectives.

Key Accountabilities:

1. To define & co-ordinate robust engineering processes
2. development of manufacturing processes achieving maximum output and efficiency.
3. Generation and implementation of engineering solutions to take products from development to full production.
4. Leading the application of detailed process understanding to design, develop and optimise manufacturing processes.
5. Maintain/create engineering/production documents.
6. Support key business projects

Example Tasks Supporting Key Accountabilities:

Example Task 1

• Identify opportunities and priorities for improving engineering processes.
• Analysis of processes using various methodologies, including; process FMEA, risk assessments, POKE-YOKE.
• Technical report to be produced, assessing current process design suitability to meet LTi production capabilities.

Example Task 2

• Assess alternatives and gain input on ideas from relevant departments.
• Design a process to optimise manufacturing methods with consideration to process flow methods and flexibility.
• Following consultation and agreement of proposed methods, design jigs/fixtures and tooling associated with the above.

Example Task 3

• Develop and design processes that deliver process improvement, provide process capability and capacity to enable both volume and product variance growth.
• Design validation protocol and agree with Manufacturing and Quality departments.
• Validate processes and implement for volume production.

Examples Task 4

• Co-ordinate implementation of processes; defining scope, assessing options and alternatives, defining solutions, full validation and implementation on time.
• Facilitate disciplines across the business in delivering new solutions

Personal Attributes:

• Effective and confident communicator
• Able to mix practical with analytical approaches
• Competent at planning, sharing and delivering small projects

Essential: Solid knowledge of basic engineering principles, Time management, CAD/CAM, Problem- solving

Advantageous: FMEA, DFMA, LEAN, Solidworks
