Opportunity
The Vehicle Power Unit Validation Engineer is responsible for mechanical development, performance, functional verification and durability validation in-vehicle as part of the power unit Design Verification Plan (DVP). They are principally responsible for executing tests in-vehicle to validate the internal combustion engine and surrounding systems
The Development Engineer ultimately reports to the Engine Validation and Attributes Manager (LL6) but may be allocated to a Module Lead (D) or Technical Lead (D) dependant on project requirements and specific team structure.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Principally responsible for the execution of power unit functional, durability & attribute validation testing at a vehicle level, ensuring validation test activity is delivered on time and to the required data quality and delivery standards.
  • Ensure tests are accurately executed to correct procedures & operating conditions and produce high quality data.
  • Establish, maintain and inform accurate test plans that clearly identify the timing and specific requirements of test facilities required.
  • Support continuous improvement activity including creation and maintenance of JLR test procedures and company standards relevant to role (TPJLR / STJLR).
  • Compile accurate technical reports for DV tests as evidence for component and system sign-off and informed clearly to all stakeholders.
  • Ensure DV tests are conducted safely and in accordance with JLR H&S policies.
  • Support relevant technical reviews and lead/support issue resolution through established processes and standard JLR tools (AIMS/8D).


Knowledge, Skills and Experience


Essential:

  • Full UK driving License.
  • Strong technical background with knowledge of power unit engineering, components and systems.
  • Understanding of design principles and the application of problem resolution and quality tools within a product engineering environment.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Experience and proficiency in data processing and control system software.


Desirable:

  • Good level of vehicle handling skills, Class 3PG and 4PG driver training level (JLR internal process) or equivalent.
  • Experience of issue resolution within an automotive project team environment.
  • Good working knowledge of automotive Product Creation Delivery System (or similar process)
  • Working knowledge of ETAS equipment and INCA software for data collection.
  • Use of software programming to assist efficient data processing (Excel VBA, Matlab, Concerto Scripting)
