The role

As a Works Access Coordinator, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is a highly prestigious position within our complex fleet time support programme, responsible for ensuring the safety of personnel who are engaged in maintenance activities within confined spaces onboard various vessels alongside at Clyde.

Day to day, you'll act as the first point of contact for the organisation and deconfliction of all confined space activities AFLOAT at HMNB Clyde; responsible for controlling and approving access to confined spaces. You'll carry out monitoring of the platforms with regards to health, safety and environment, conducting health and safety rounds of designated submarines and working with stakeholders to assure full compliance with regulations. You'll also support other Babcock business units and external contractors with advice and information regarding confined space entry.

  • Responsible for up to 70 concurrently working team members requiring monitoring and control within confined spaces afloat.
  • Act as a mentor to colleagues giving guidance and instruction on relevant aspects of JSP375 vol 3 chapter 6.
  • Collating and presenting compliance data, working with project teams to support sequencing of work packages, and supporting the management team in the collective endeavour to maintain and improve safety.

In addition, you'll be a member of the wider Babcock Marine Nuclear Group and will have the opportunity to support other projects in different roles within your discipline, with a focus on longer term career development.

This role is based full time on site at HMNB Clyde, Faslane, near Helensburgh.

Preferred experience of the Works Access Coordinator:

  • Mechanical and Electrical Marine Engineering systems and equipment
  • Health and Safety Regulation and applications within a marine engineering environment
  • COSHH
  • Safe Systems of Work - in particular, Confined Space Authorised Person & Competent Analyst requirements
  • The Planning Process
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills

Qualifications required for the Works Access Coordinator:

  • Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship (or equivalent)

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.

Attractive Shift Pattern

Shifts are currently on a 21-day rota with rest days between. Rota is working three days, then four then two as below.

  • Day 1(Tue), 2 (Wed) & 3(Thu): 20:00 - 0815
  • Day 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 rest days
  • Day 11 (Fri), 12 (Sat), 13 (Sun) & 14 (Mon): 20:00 - 0815
  • Day 15, 16, 17 & 18 rest days
  • Day 19 (Sat) & 20 (Sun): 08:00 - 20:15
  • Day 21 rest day

This pattern is subject to consultation as may be altered to meet the needs of the business and staff.
